Student accommodation
Students coming to study in London will need somewhere to live. At the Whitechapel end of the site, we are planning to build a new student block – one that is safe, modern and welcoming.
In this picture you can see our proposals for a new student block behind Oeanair House which will be incorporated into the proposals. Opening out onto Whitechapel High Street will be a ground floor retail space. Above that will be student recreation facilities , including roof terraces and a gym.
These spaces will provide a safe and inviting place for students to both live and study and the building has been designed to enliven the surrounding streets. We are proposing a range of room types across the development with spaces for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Higher education institutions across the city are in desperate need for living space with a 54% increase in students studying across London since 2017. Buildings like this provide a safe space for students to live in and greatly reduce pressure on homes far better suited to families.
Students can bring energy, vitality and spending power to a neighbourhood. We will be producing an in-depth student management plan setting out how we can ensure the students that live here will be good neighbours to the existing community.
Below is a sketch showing a ‘cut-through’ of the student accommodation building. It gives a glimpse into how it might look and feel: welcoming reception areas, attractive planting on the street, comfortable recreation areas and quiet places to study.
