Introducing the Whitechapel Campus

Welcome to the consultation site for the future of the Whitechapel Campus. With the London Metropolitan University (LMU) leaving the majority of the site in summer 2026, we are proposing a plan to breathe new life into Calcutta House and this prominent set of buildings in the heart of Aldgate.

A project team have been carefully selected to devise a strategy for the area. We are committed to working with those within the community to create a scheme that everyone can be proud of. Local residents, businesses, and stakeholders are invited to explore the plans and share your feedback.

The development will preserve and celebrate Calcutta House. This is a restoration-led project that will invest significantly in securing the building's future for the next century.

A place for students to live

Students coming to study in London will need somewhere to live. At the Whitechapel end of the site, we will build a new student block – one that is safe, modern and welcoming.
